York County/Poquoson Social Services has developed a taskforce to help train youth in Lackey for positive social collaborative life opportunities. They meet once a week and are provided snack and drinks.

Food Drive
Canned and other non-perishable foods are collected for the St. Luke's Food Pantry the 1st Sunday of each month.
H.O.P.E. Sundays
KirkWood assists the Southeastern Food Bank to provide food for needy families through the Helping Other People Eat program. Offerings for the H.O.P.E. Ministry will be held the 2nd Sunday of each month.
St. Paul's Episcopal Weekend Ministry
KirkWood covers one weekend every two months feeding the homeless out of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in downtown Newport News. We cook a hot meal for Saturday lunch and make sandwiches for bag lunches on Sunday of that weekend.
Mentoring
KirkWood members volunteer their time to tutor and read stories to students at McIntosh Elementary in Newport News and Poquoson Primary in Poquoson.
Red Cross Blood Drives
KirkWood sponsors blood drives throughout the year.
Menchville House
Menchville House Ministries, Inc. is a faith-based, non-denominational program organized to serve women in transition, offering shelter, hope, and resources to face life. This program shelters approximately 16 women and 30 children for a period of 6-18 months. Women learn to defeat old behaviors with counseling and lifestyle adaptation assistance, gaining assurance and self-esteem, which will enable them, to function as independent persons without public assistance. PORT
Is a group that provides shelter, meals, and clothing to the homeless on the Peninsula. At this time they are asking for our help to collect large and extra large clothing for men. We are collecting socks, underwear, t-shirts, warm shirts, sweaters, sweat shirts, and sweat pants. Only the underwear has to be new. Please place any donations of clothing in the blue bin by the side door. Thank you so very much for your help.
